My Bunny Tote

I woke up this morning and had this bunny on my mind!! I managed to create it just how I wanted it to look. This tote is the same size as the special order one I did yesterday!

I can make you one too!! I am accepting special orders on these bags. The price is $68 including postage in the US.

I have some more ideas for future totes too.......my mind is racing!!

The secret pocket is for my cell phone, keys and money!! All zipped in and safe from getting lost!!! I will be carrying alot of groceries in this bag next week!!!!!

Vintage Valentine Large Annie doll

NEW Table Runner - Summer Watermelons

I was in the mood to make a table runner yesterday! I went to the quilt shop to look for a pattern, but nothing really grabbed me. Then I saw this pack of really cute fabrics!

I cut all the fabrics into 3.5" squares, after I picked out the pieces I wanted for the melons!! The runner is one of a kind and measures 15" x 38.5".

I machine quilted it, using the "Stitch in the Ditch" method and machine appliqued the fruit!!

I tried to get all 8 of these Ann's and Andy's finished, but ran out of time!! In the morning I will sew the hair on and get them dressed and ready to go to their new homes!!!!

I love these mini dolls!!! I have had such fun today creating them while watching scrap booking vidoes on youtube!!! I have always wanted to make cards and now I URGENTLY want to try it!!!

I cleaned and organized my sewing room(previously my office)last weekend and everything feels fresh and new, even though I don't have anything new!!!! I have a bunch of things listed on ebay that I no longer need if you want to have a look!!!

Just a couple things....

I wanted to show you the surprise I sent to my friend Dot!! I am not sure if she has received it, but she isn't online so I am safe to publish!!!! Andy is 8" tall and I wrote her a Friendship letter and made this envelope from scrapbook paper and sealed it with a red heart and tape!! I hope it brings her a smile!!!! I know I have been smiling ever since I mailed it last week! I can hardly wait for her to call me!!

Today I finished this set of "Winter Friends". I love making winter dolls because they are so cute all dressed in something warm and cozy!!!

Each doll is 10" (my favorite size to make) and I am selling them together as a matching set!!

I stitched old buttons on their hats and scarves! Their clothes are heavily stained to look old and loved!

My Weekend

I learned how to complete a Dresden Plate!!! I am so excited about it, I started 2 new quilts. The blocks in the photos are the beginning of a quilt I am making for me!! I am using Kansas Troubles Summers End and Butterfly Garden....my FAVORITE fabric.

I takes me 45 minutes to hand applique each plate onto the 14" block!! I can do one per evening until I have them all done!!

I never thought I would be able to construct a block that looked so complicated!!! I made a complete mess out of my office and before I start working today, I have to clean it up.....and start laundry, and vacuum....who has time to do chores when you have quilting to do!!!!!

Shopping Tote

We were invited to dinner from Robert's Mom and Dad and I wanted to bring a special gift!! Something useful!! So I made this shopping tote. I didn't use a pattern, but I measured a Meijer bag and roughly made it that size!

This time though, I wanted to add sides, so I did and LOVE it! I think it will be a bit easier to fold up when not in use!!

The bag measures 13" tall x 11" wide x 7 deep. The handles are 12". The handles are longer than I intended, BUT it is perfect to throw over your shoulder!

This bag takes one charm pack (42 squares) + a yard or more of fusible fleece + a yard of coordinating fabric.

I covered the button with fabric and stitched it on!! I really like the matching buttons on the outside of the totes!!

I added a secret pocket!! Big enough to hold your drivers license, debit card or cash!! And you can zip it up so your things don't fall out and get lost!!

I doubled the fleece to make the bag very sturdy. I like them that way!! I will show you the one I make for me...maybe next week....by the way, my Mother-in-Law LOVED it!!!

I used "Bar Harbor" charm packs for this nautical/patriotic lap quilt! I tied it with ivory crochet string. I chose a black print to frame it with! For the backing, I used a furry white fabric. I forgot to photograph it!! It has been a busy day today. For the inside, I used an old blanket that I have had for a long time!!

This quilt is made of "Oasis" by 3 Sisters charm packs. I like to use 4 packs and then border it to make it the size I like!! So far I haven't made 2 exactly the same size. I love this line of fabric. It looks elegant and pretty!

This is another heavy weight blanket!! I used an old comforter for the middle and minkee for the back! It is so comfy on a cold night!!

My Big Purse Order

I have been working on this order for the past few days! But they are finished and ready to be delivered!!

Each purse was made from a complete charm pack (42 squares). Not one square was wasted!! The inside required 3/4 yard of matching fabric. I doubled the iron on batting because I like the stiffness! ( I don't know how much I used of batting, but it was ALOT!!!!!)

For the bottom, I cut a thin plastic cutting board I purchased from the Dollar Store and covered it with matching fabric. Each purse can be put in the washer and dryer when needed!!!

I made covered buttons for a neat embellishment for the outside!! I love it!!

Now I think I will make myself some shopping totes!!!! I made one a while ago in the same measurements as a Meijers bag and it was fantastic!!! I gave to my daughter, so I need to make some more!!

I also finished the quilt I was working on last weekend!!! Today I will be finishing another one and I will post pics for both!!!!

My summers the past couple years have been full of extra work and activities! My blog is the one thing I maintain online, that always suffers!

Our Thanksgiving was really fun this year!! We had our big dinner at our house. Robert and I cooked together. We are a like a well oiled machine in the kitchen...and since the kitchen belongs to Robert, I never have to do the dishes!! I make a big mess, and Robert always cleans it all up for me!! How awesome is that??

The food was extra delicious and I think all of our guests had a nice day and left with FULL bellies!!!

We don't have any snow here in Michigan, but I expect it any day now. It feels really odd that the temps have been so warm. It is going to get up to about 50 degrees today!

Today I am going to work on a quilt that has been sitting all summer! I thought I would have had 3 of them done by now, but it was a hot summer and the mood just never struck me. Just thinking about sewing a binding on a quilt, with it covering me up was too much, even with central air!!!!

Well, this is a start! Until next week!!

I hand appliqued this circle on the back with the info!! I included the Title, number, date and my name!! The backing is yellow polka dot flannel!!

I used crochet string for the ties!!!

I have never made a doll from felt before, but couldn't wait to get started on these!! I worked all evening last night and all morning today and got these 2 dolls done. Now I need to order the felt for the dresses and I can finish them later!!

I am a novice at felting!! I didn't really know when to stop adding hair....I am sure you can tell!! I think as I get used to the process the hair do's will turn out more tame!!!!

I got my farm yard quilt done!!!

I worked all afternoon yesterday and got this farm yard quilt done!! I even had time to put it in the washer and dryer!! This one measures about 70" x 70". The perfect size for snuggling on the couch on a cold evening!!

I tied this quilt with crochet string. (The same is the previous one a few weeks ago that I posted!!) I used an old comforter for the middle. It is pretty heavy!!

Earthtone fabrics are some of my favorite colors to work with. I really enjoyed making this!!

For the back, I purchased this brown check flannel. It is very soft against your skin. I am all about comfort!!!

And here is the matching pillow case!! Just the perfect thing to go with a comfy blanket!!!

Following are photos of all the quilt projects I am currently working on RIGHT NOW!!! Yes, there are way too many, but sometimes during the day I have a few minutes to pull one out, work on it for a bit, and then put it back on the floor! I have them all in piles on the floor!!!

I feel like I have gone madd!!!!!! I am going to finish each one of these, one by one over coming weekends......THEN I will dig out the ones I have put in a box to show you too!!!!!! I am determined to get all of these and the ones in the box done by this summer!!!!!

I am in a quilting frenzy and loving it!!

Thimbleberries

I purchases a layer cake, and cut the squares into digaonals and smaller squares. This quilt is "Thimbleberries". It will be a throw size when I am done. I need to finish sewing all the squares together and figure out how big the borders should be!! I know I am going to do a skinny one and a fat one!!

I am making this one up as I go along!! I imagine a brightly colored picnic quilt with all my favorite things in it!! Yes, you guessed it, cherries, checks and alot of reds!! I still need to assemble a few more of these blocks and then add sashing inbetween each one and then decide if its done or not.....so the future of this one is really up in the air!!!!

I am hoping to pick this one up later today and sew it up...then I need to choose a border fabric, which will require me to take it downtown to the quilt shop and pick something that will be a perfect match!!!! I am really excited to get this one done. It reminds me of a happy sunny day in summer!!!

I got up early and put hair and makeup on to spend the morning with my friend and accountant!! We had a really nice visit! The tax situation isn't too bad either, so that is a relief!! If Dairy Grill was open, I would go have an ice cream cone for a treat!!!

I am getting ready to start my next quilt. I am going to make it out of the pictured Layer Cake, Natural Garden. The vivid purples really caught my eye!! I purchased the rotating cutting mat at JoAnns and can't hardly wait to use it!!

So after I finish up some special orders today, I'm going to try it out!!

I am in charge of dinner tonight. Easy Chicken Enchiladas using that new Cooking Creme by Philadelphia....I hope it's good!!

My latest Quilt Project

I just finished this quilt yesterday! I have been working on it for a couple weeks in my free time. From the start, I was in over my head but I tried to be patient and precise! When I was sewing the binding on, it made my sewing machine seem like a small toy that was just bouncing around on the table!!!!
I used the new line of fabric called "Charlevoix". I purchased 12 charm packs and only had a few left over in the end. This quilt measures 98" x 98". I put 22 squares together for each side.

I made this throw first and I loved it so much, I wanted the big one for our bed!! I am still not sick of this fabric! I have an extra charm pack that I am going to make a purse out of!!(I will post a photo if it turns out!!)

I have a scrappy quilt that my Grandma made years ago that is tied with scraps of yarn. I keep it in the living room because it feels like home to me. It was my inspiration because I love the look of a tied quilt. AND it was something I could do myself!!

I went down to our local quilt shop to pick coordinating fabrics for pillow cases too!! For those of you who are familiar with my work, you all ready know I am crazy about cherry fabrics!!!!! OH, and the color red!!!! I chose a blue print for Robert because he loves blue, and cherries for me!! I LOVE THEM!!!!

For the backing, I used "Minky". It is a heavier weight SUPER soft fuzzy fabric. It feels like soft fur against your skin. I used it on the throw and it didn't give me any problem at all. After making this huge quilt, I can use it on any size!!!

For the middle, I used an old "Kmart" quilt, which makes the quilt very thick and quite heavy. I am not sure what it weighs, but I estimate it could be over 5 pounds but less than 10!! It sure feels nice to be under the weight of it on a cold winter night!

So this is my new passion!! I have been watching beginning quilting tutorials and becoming very inspired to make many more quilts!! I think I am almost ready to try pinwheels and triangles soon!!!!!!!

I will more updates before another 8 months passes, I PROMISE!! Sorry that it has been so long!!!!!!

I am keeping busy this summer, making my little raggedies!! My favorite thing to do!!! I have neglected to write a blog in quite a while....so here we go.......

I joined Weight Watchers a few months ago, just after the new year started and I am really excited to say that I have lost 30 pounds. The photo above was taken just a couple weeks ago when I was having a good day!! I love wearing yellow!!!

Anyway, for those of you who are aware of my struggles with Type 2 Diabetes, this is my "too good to be true" solution to running a good healthy and fun lifestyle!!!! I don't worry about counting carbs anymore. I just keep track of the points. The points take care of the fat, carbs and calories. What a relief to not have to count EVERYTHING!! All of the endless counting I have been doing the past several years is just discouraging times 1000!!!

The thing I love best, is that I subscribe to e-tools. I track everything online and can look up food values, find recipes, enter weight every week, build recipes, and many other things.....BUT

I just got an iphone and I downloaded the Weight Watcher's free app, so now I can track my points no matter where I am. I LOVE the convenience! Anything that makes my life easier...THATs WHAT I AM ABOUT!!!!!

I didn't intend on this blog being a WW commercial, but I love sharing positive, healthy tips on living your life and being truly happy........I am working on the happiness...it comes and goes!!!

OH, and by the way, I don't think I will ever NOT want the oreo cookies at Walmart, but walking on by makes me feel strong and in control of ME!!!!! I love that!!

We worked on a few things this weekend....Robert replaced the "flusher" parts in the master bath, and I sort of remodeled the hall bath....the best that I could with very little money!!!!

I didn't think I would like it very much, because I am very anxious to order a dumpster and gut the entire room and start from scratch and make it truly unique and rustic.....but I have to wait!!!!

To my surprise, I LOVE it!!! This will definitely work for me until it's time to start over!!!

I found this toilet seat at Lowes....it closes by itself!!! I LOVE it!! No more slamming the seat down!!!

The shower curtains are really window drapes!!!! Aren't they perfect?? I learned to do this on "Design on a Dime"!!!

I hate this sink but I have to admit, it looks GOOD!!!! I bought the towels and fixtures at Kmart.

I added some dolls and things I love to make it mine......I feel happy!!!

Following are a few photos of my "new" cabin!!! I am very happy with it so far!!

Remember this mini quilt?? I made it more than a year ago! Now I am really enjoying it!! My Mom & Dad made the wooden watermelons when I was a kid!! I have more of them put away that I will add later on.

I have had these snow shoes put away, JUST for this occasion! My brother gave them to me to hang up a few years ago!!!!

I put up my handmade coat racks!! Now the jackets won't lay in front of the closet door!!!!! I really like the old fashioned looking rug and the coca cola sign above the door!! I will paint the door later.....

This is Robert's music corner!!! I really like the guitar hanging on the wall!! He plays records almost every day, so this is perfect for him!!!

update on my home improvements

Here is the window wall of the living room. I have been working on the curtains since last night. I LOVE them!! It feels like home!!! I have the only doll I own of mine on the end table!!! I need to make her a friend!!!

I didn't want the love seat in front of the window, but I do like it there for now!!!! I have a couple options to rearrange the furniture when I feel like it!!!

I have had this bird feeder for years!! It has been sitting in storage, until we dug it out the other day and Robert attached it to this post and planted it right outside my office window! It will be fun to watch the birds.....when they discover there is food here!!!

This is the same garden we have had for several years....I took some of the plants from here, and moved them to the new one that is attached and flows around the corner and down the side of the house.

I love the hosta plants along with lots of flowers!!

The plants are small, but they will start filling out next summer. Everything we purchased will come back next year. In about a month, we will be putting spring bulbs in. Tulips, crocus, and daffodils.....LOTS of them!!!

Here are my new glasses!!!!! I am still getting used to them!! I really loved my frames that were the same color as my hair though!

I had my check up at the doctor today!!! My a1c is 5.8....which is so phenomenal, I can hardly believe it! I was so happy when it was 6.3 last time, I was only hoping for something similar!! Needless to say, my doctor was EXTREMELY happy with me!!!!

I love it when I can sort of start over and be in such a good place in my mind AND body, so I can continue on and do even better for the next 3 months!!!

I also spent the rest of the day with my sister and we had a blast, talking non stop and having fun!!!!

Tomorrow....back to work!!

New Bed Linens....& Barkley!!!

Yesterday, we went shopping for supplies at the Bread Store, Bill's Farm Market, Gordon's and Walmart!!!! It took practically all day!! I have been wanting to get some new sheets in the worst way! So I picked out these bright yellow cotton sheets and quilt at Walmart! Don't they look great together?? Now it feels like I have a new bed too!! It feels like sunshine!!!!!

I couldn't leave Barkley out of the photo...after all, it is his bed too!!!!! It would be Chelsea's bed, but she can't jump up that high, and she doesn't like to be that close!!!!

Today I am going to Glen's Market to get 5 pound boxes of Michigan blueberries for $9.99 a box!!! I look forward to having a freezer full of blueberries and strawberries for atleast part of the winter!!!!!!

I have a sewing hint!! I usually use heavy duty thread to assemble my dolls, but I get discouraged when the thread tangles up and often snaps in two. I purchased some button & craft thread last weekend, and have been using it this week and have decided that I love it!! It is much stronger than the previous thread I was using and it doesn't tangle up or break!!!!

I Lost Weight!!!!

Ok, so I think that hurting my arm just might have been a blessing in disguise!

I weighed in this morning at 157!!!! I can't even tell you how excited I am that I am well into a new number!!! Walking is really paying off!! I am limiting my weight training to 2-3 times a week and walking the rest of the time!!

I am not the only one that loves the walks! Barkey and Chelsea are starting to remind me every evening that we need to go!!!

One more thing....just in case you are not on my mailing list!! I am having a HUGE sale on my website starting at 12 Noon, Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, June 30!!! All new dolls priced very low!!!!!! More details to come....

I have shown you my office a few times when it is looking so perfect.......but today while I was working, I looked around and laughed at what I saw!! Then I took a picture of it!! I get so involved creating each little personality, my 2 tables I work on get loaded up with all kinds of stuff!!!! So just to let you know, this is how my office usually looks by 2 pm every day!!!!!!!!

I walked over to our local farm market at lunch time and purchased a few stems!! When I saw these gerber daisies, I HAD to have them to put in my Coca Cola pitcher/vase!!! I am so happy to enjoy these for the rest of the week!!!!

Now, off to get some exercise!!!!!

my slight set-back

I am a little bummed, because I have been working out with the heaviest weight being 10 pounds. My shoulder started aching after only a couple workouts, but I pushed through thinking it would recover. Now, several workouts later, my shoulder doesn't show any improvement, so I am going back down to 4-5-7 pound weights to give my shoulder some time to heal up. I think I might have strained the muscles.

On the upside of this, maybe using the same weights for a while and increasing my walks to atleast 3-4 times a week will start showing me some weight loss.

I sure hope this works....another positive part, is my glucose numbers are ALWAYS good!!! And the few times they do get a little elevated, it is my own fault!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OH, and Robert's cholesterol is in NORMAL range now!! Last October it was pretty high! Now, we are working on getting it down lower, so he can stop taking the medicine. He hates taking meds!!!!

We went to the local farm market and found these fresh fruits and vegetables! I just finished cutting up the assortment to set out tonight. I love having a bunch of veggies all ready prepared when it is meal time! It is less work for Robert that way!!!!!

I have never purchased fresh asparagas before.....I am going to steam it and I hope it is delicious!!!

It makes me feel healthy looking at all this good food!!!

Sunday Morning

I got up at 9 am!!! I am relaxing on my love seat, checking all my internet stuff and sipping hot coffee!! I love having "time off" until noon!!!!

I have had alot to think about regarding school and keeping up with my work. I was pleased to find out that I have a few credits that still count towards this certificate for "Medical Assistant". I am waiting to see if I receive any form of financial aid and I will be applying for student loans. If I can get enough money in student loans, I will take more classes at a time to get through the process quicker...get the job....and start reaping the benefits of work.....and will continue to make dolls in my free time.

I am adding different routines to my daily weight training. I purchased Joyce Vedral's "Just Arms, Just Thighs and Just Abs". I also increased my weights to 5 lb - 7 lb - 10 lb. Let me tell you, I am still not sure if I can handle the 10 lbs, but I keep doing it anyway!!!!! It is difficult!!!!!

OH, I almost forgot to say I took my first ride on the Sportster on Friday!! I actually had to take some papers to the school and rode the bike there, just to find out they were closed!!! I will be going back this week...but in the Jeep this time!! It is supposed to be rainy all week!!! I am always nervous on the first ride, because I feel like I forget what to do over the winter, but by the time I reached the highway, I was doing great!!!! I even took a second ride with Robert after he got home from work!!! Then it rained buckets 2 hours after that!!!

Still Cold in Michigan

I have been tracking the weather in Kill Devil Hills, NC since we arrived home a few weeks ago from our vacation....it has been 75-80 degrees every day!!! Here in northern Michigan it is about 45-50 degrees. I am losing hope that summer time sunshine will get here before winter hits us again!!!

I haven't even gotten on my Sportster yet this year. I will hope for next weekend!!! I don't consider myself a die hard rider. I have ridden through thunderstorms and was soaked right through to my bones......and my fingertips have been numb from 35 degree nighttime cold. I am not into freezing to death---if I can help it!!!!!!

I hired a housekeeper!!!!! My daughter Ashlee!! I was concerned about having someone I could trust do some weekly cleaning for me, and she offered!!!! I thought it was a great idea!! She detailed the kitchen today!! I was very happy to pay her and then enjoy the cleanliness!!!!!

Ashlee and I are going to the college to see our advisors next week and then we will be ready to sign up for our fall class. We are starting out with one class to see how it goes, then we will figure out what we will take for the winter semester!!!

My weight is the same....160. I am really sick of it, but I am not allowing myself to get mad, upset or depressed. I am eating right and exercising. That's what counts!!

I Have made an Important Decision.

This is a quick note tonight...I am watching Dancing with the Stars Finale!!!

First, I still weigh 160 pounds, but my body is changing because of the workouts I do every day with 5-7 pound weights!! So I don't feel badly about not losing pounds at the moment!!

I have been having a nagging thought for a few months now.....going back to college.....Ashlee (my daughter) and I are going to do it together!! We have decided to get a certificate to be a Medical Assistant.

I feel the need to do this for practical reasons. "Health Insurance". Having Diabetes sort of forces me to think about insurance. In later years, I will really need it when the complications start.

BUT I am not going to stop making my little raggedies!! It is my most favorite thing to do in the entire world and I don't want to stop!! I am hoping that making these dolls will help me pay for my tuition and the household bills!!!!

I hope I can get through even more hard days ahead!!!!!!

I have just recieved my test results for my A1c test from last week!!! It is down to 6.3!!! This means I am in optimal control of my disease! I can't tell you how thrilled I am to report this! Today is a GREAT day!!!

My first Plateau!

I have been irritated that the scale has not moved in weeks, but it finally did this morning!!!! I weigh 160!!!!! I have lost 21 pounds!!! I am almost in brand new territory.....I have lost this 20 pounds a hundred times. BUT I feel like this is the last time I will need to say that!!

I am shopping for an A1c kit because it is time to find out what it is by Tuesday!!! I have never looked forward to taking this test more than I do right now!

Riding season is coming up any day now, and I am excited to get on my Sportster this year! Robert is outside at this moment changing the oil and doing additional maintenance before we take them out!!!!

I am working all weekend and all next week....then we are taking a vacation!!! I am looking forward to waking up next to the ocean on the outer banks of North Carolina in a few more days!!!!!
